The First Rainbow

After flooding the entire world with a global flood, God made a promise that he would never again destroy the world with water. In order to communicate this promise, God not only spoke it to Noah, but he also hung a majestic bow in the sky. Genesis 9:12-15 records the scene of God’s promise to Noah and future generations:

And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.” Genesis 9:12-15

The rainbow with its radiant colors, like all of God’s creation, point to the existence of a majestic loving God and his direct involvement in our lives. Psalm 19:1

ONE OF A KIND

The rainbow has to be one of the most unique visual displays in nature. It appears in a variety of intensities and completeness. Occasionally even a double rainbow. The conditions for a rainbow appearance can be anticipated but the exact display can never be predicted. A rainbow display can never be delayed or started early by human activity and it is impossible for us to extend or cut the display short. The creator of the rainbow has it in his complete control. Just like God, the rainbow cannot be manipulated. Malachi 3:6

GOD’S PROMISES

The Bible contains thousands of promises that God has made to mankind. These promises are sealed by the highest authority, God’s Word. In Hebrews 6:13 it says, “For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself.”

THE CONTINUING LIE

From the beginning satan has encouraged us to question God’s word with “Did God actually say?” Genesis 3:1 Satan continues to ask that question and provide us with misleading and confusing information in hopes of building mistrust in God and his word.

NO GREATER GIFT

Sinful, rebellious humans are totally incapable of establishing a relationship with a Holy God who cannot tolerate sin. This Holy God has provided a way for our sins to be completely forgiven through his Son Jesus Christ. By placing our faith and trust in Jesus and his death on the cross we can be reconciled and transformed into children of our Father God with our sins forgiven. A free gift to us, paid for by Jesus – no greater gift. Ephesians 2:8 & 9
